Why is Hansel Marantan Trending?
Hansel Marantan is trending because the Philippine National Police confirmed on Monday that he will be allowed to resume his duties. Marantan was the principal suspect in the 2013 “rubout” event that resulted in the deaths of 12 people. Initially discharged from the military in 2014 due to serious misconduct during a roadblock operation he led, Marantan recently had his case reconsidered by the National Police Commission, which subsequently issued a directive for his reinstatement along with 12 colleagues. Despite Philippine National Police Chief, Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, stating he did not approve Marantan’s return, the reinstatement came as a result of an appeals process.
