The scene, as it happened.
It took me about a year to heal from my first breakup. And then, just when I wasn't looking, I met the man I used to call the love of my life. A friend from school had just given birth, and she chose me to be her daughter's godmother. She chose him to be the godfather. It's a funny way to meet someone, because it's like having a child together: you are linked forever. He was smart, and yes, he wasn't tall either, even though I love tall men 🤣. But he had everything else I look for in a person: ambition, respect, politeness, kindness. He was a good listener. With him, I was always in my feminine energy. But he was broken. He was an orphan, and he had never healed his past. That taught me something I now believe deeply: heal your past before you start a relationship. When we met, I already had a plan to move to the UK. He knew it, and I was clear about it, because I would never change my plans for a man. I wanted to end things there and then, but he said no. We can make it. So we tried. And that's where I learnt my second lesson. Someone who grew up without a family often struggles to be on their own. He needed reassurance, a presence, constant proof of love. And no amount of love I gave could fill a space that only he could heal.
