He Has Never Changed the Toilet Paper. Not Once.

2 / 5

The exact moment

The scene, as it happened.

After almost four years together, exhausted by my day at work, the gym, the cooking, the cleaning, I began to ask him if he could help me a little bit. But month after month, I became angry about his behavior. Still, I refused to be in a couple where the cleaning chores are the reason for breaking up. I mean, any type of violence, physical or emotional, is of course a reason to leave! Cheating too! But come on, can I really break up with him because he doesn't put the leftovers in the fridge, or doesn't clean the inside of the microwave when he's the only one using it? In my mind, I was the only woman on earth experiencing this type of bad behavior, because my man is unique. I was so wrong! One day, I was visiting my friend. We were in the living room with two other female friends when her man came home early, sat down on the sofa to say hi to us, took off his shoes, left them in the middle of the carpet, and went to their room. I saw my friend almost having a heart attack—because he did that on top of us being there. My friend was like, "I can't stay with him anymore! It's nonstop. To cook an egg, he will use three forks, two spoons, and one pan." She was mentally exhausted. For him, it was not a big deal. But of course it is! But girls, you are not alone. And each of us started to complain about our men, as if to say: you are not alone, we have the same at home. A couple of months later, they broke up. The cleaning issues were not the main reason, but they were the trigger that opened Pandora's box on all their other issues. I don't think we all experience the same issues, because we are all different. But cleaning issues, the chores that are supposed to be split equally, finances—these can lead some couples to break up. And I refused to lose him for a silly reason, like putting his underwear in the hamper instead of leaving it on the floor.
